“Thank you for being there for me and listening to what I have to say, you always cheer me up.” (Child who has been part of the Accompanying Project)
“I cannot thank your worker enough for his continued time, support and commitment to us as a family.” (Parent of child who has been part of the Accompanying Project)
Those who will benefit are vulnerable children at risk of a difficult transition to secondary school which could negatively affect their opportunities and achievement at secondary school. Vulnerabilities faced by these children cover a range of issues and can include poor social skills, behavioural challenges, low academic achievement and a difficult home life. The children are identified by the primary school, aged 10-11, in year 6 and heading towards the transition to secondary school. The school refers those they think will benefit from additional support when making the move to their new school.
“The project make a real difference to our pupils as it gives them space and time to talk and work through worries. It helps to build their confidence and the ability to try new things. It also helps them to manage the transition into secondary school – this is a very hard time for many of our pupils and the project and mentors guide the pupils through this and the extra visits in the autumn term make a real difference.” (Jo Coppens – Deputy Head at St. Philip’s Primary School)
